Best management practices for the disposal of dental amalgam
and mercury wastes in Ontario
Dental practices should consult local municipality for guidance on this class of dental waste.
- There are different configurations of traps, cuspidors, etc. All dental amalgam particles collected by any configuration should be treated as contact amalgam.
- Where separation between contact and non-contact amalgam is not required by the Approved Waste Carrier, all amalgam wastes may be placed in a single container labeled "Scrap Amalgam".
- Check with local municipality whether empty amalgam capsules are recyclable.
